FORFEITING Last Modified: 6/15/2011 4:51:38 PM by BARBIE

If you have exhausted all of your efforts in finding a sub and you MUST forfeit your match, it is the Captains responsibility to contact the opposing Captain.  If you can email me beforehand, I would appreciate it so that I can notify my staff and they can mark the score sheets accordingly.  If you cannot email me beforehand, please send me an email as soon as you can so that I know what happened.  If two teams don't show up and I know nothing about it, then I have no idea who canceled on who.  THANK YOU!

If your team does not notify myself and/or the other team and it happens frequently, your team will be removed from the schedule and you will not be allowed to play again next year.  We frown heavily on no shows and irresponsibility.

RAIN POLICY Last Modified: 6/15/2011 4:42:55 PM by BARBIE

Matches are not cancelled for rain unless there is lightning in the area. Even in case of lightning, matches will be delayed and resumed when the lightning stops. Matches may be cancelled due to court flooding.  Sorry, I do not have a contact # for cancellations as I cannot access my answering machine remotely and I cannot have everyone calling me while I'm at work.

If matches are cancelled before 4:00 PM, we will post a notice on the website and email all of the Captains [our quickest means of communication.]  If after 4:00 PM, we will be calling each Captain at their listed Contact # in addition to the posting and email.  If you are going to be out of town or not able to retrieve your email on that particular day, it is your responsibility to have someone else on your team check the website, call for more information or let us know that you, the Captain, are not available and that they need to be the one we contact in case of a cancellation.

Rescheduling makeups due to rain:  Please do not call or email regarding the makeups due to rain.  At my earliest convenience, I will email all of the captains their new, revised schedules.  Then, if there is a problem, you can contact me.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Last Modified: 2/23/2011 2:43:31 PM by BARBIE

WHAT LEVEL SHOULD I PLAY?
I'm getting a lot of questions as to what level should you play.  Here is our basic rule of thumb...

H.S. kids ages 14-15 - BB
H.S. kids ages 16-18 - A

Adults...
BB - limited to no skills, just out to have fun, too old to get around anymore - lol - especially in sand
A - skilled and still competitive
AA - more advanced skills, H.S.-college experience

Another rule of thumb, with the exception of the Men's A Division & my discretion, if you've won your division, you MUST move up to the next level.

WHAT TIMES DO WE PLAY?
Matches are normally scheduled for either 6:00 or 6:15 with the final matches of the night starting at 9:00 or 9:15.  Depending on court availability [especially on Tues], times may be moved up to 5:45 with the last match beginning at 9:45, giving me an extra time slot for each court.

HOW MANY GAMES DO WE PLAY?
Quads:  1 Match = 2 games to 25 with a 27 Pt cap and 1 game to 15 [first to 15]
Doubles:  1 Match = Best of 3, with the 3rd game to 15 [first to 15]
You may play more than one match per night depending on court availaility, rain makeups, special requests, etc.

We also try to make sure that everyone plays at least 10 weeks [or 10 matches], therefore, depending on the # of teams registered in a particular division, you may have playoffs to make your season longer or you may NOT have playoffs due to having enough playing time in already.

HOW MANY PEOPLE ON A TEAM?
Doubles = 2 players
Quads = 4 players
We encourage and request at least 2 subs to be listed on your roster.  Subs cannot enter a game already in process.  Once a player has started a game, they must finish it.  Most people use their subs if someone cannot make it, but if all of your players are going to come each week, then you must rotate them per game.

HOPE THIS HELPS!

UPDATE ON DAVE'S WIFE... Last Modified: 2/25/2010 6:29:10 PM by BARBIE

2/25/10 - I just spoke with Dave this evening.  He brought Sue home last Thursday and has realized that it definitely is a 24/7 job in taking care of her, but he's sure that she's getting better care than what's he's seen in the different nursing homes.  God Bless Him!!  Sue has been stable for the past month, meaning no pneumonia or other issues.  She takes 10-11 different medicines every morning.  She has a nurse that comes in for an hour or so, about twice a week.  She also has a physical therapist that comes in.  Right now, her blood count is low & Dave will find out either tomorrow or Monday, whether or not Sue will need a blood transfusion.  I told Dave that I don't wish this on anyone and that I hope he gets some rest, but I know that's impossible.  He can't remember the last time he's gotten any sleep.

***********************************************************

1/19/10 - I called Dave last evening since I haven't spoken to him since, according to below, last Nov.  I figured the Holidays would be a rough and busy time for he and his family, so I didn't want to bother him.  Anyway, he just said that it's been a lot of ups and downs.  Sue's been at several different locations during the past two mos, including P.S. Rehab and back at Osteopathic.  She was moved back to Manor Care yesterday around 4:00 PM.  He mentioned that she's made lots of progress, but then hits a road block, which sets her back time after time.  She has double pneumonia AGAIN.  He said that her mind is working fine; that she can write the answers to the flash cards that they use to quiz her, but due to the lack of muscle use, she still has trouble speaking.  She was actually kicked out of the P.S. Rehab program because she wasn't making the progress fast enough for the insurance to cover her therapy.  [Most of her ongoing treatment is insurance driven.]  Dave is currently working on bringing Sue home so that he can take care of her in their own home.  This will be a huge undertaking, but he's been very unhappy with most of the care that Sue has been receiving, so he feels that he can do much better.

As stated previously, it will be a long, slow process throughout the next year or even longer.  Please keep Dave & Sue & their families in your prayers!

~Barbie

**********************************************************

11/28 - I have no idea where Sue will be come Dec 1st.  She has been accepted to Rehab sites...one at Hershey Penn State at the Polyclinic Hospital and the other at Moss in Philly.  The catch is the Insurance Co has to approve her which the last time they did not.  Sue has made improvements and can use the Alphabet Chart to spell stuff to tell us what she needs.  She is able to balance herself on the edge of her bed for close to 5 minutes, so she is making progress.  On the downside, they need to adjust her shut, but with the bacteria in her lungs, they need to wait to do anything with that at this time and she keeps her eyes closed a lot, but she is listening to what is being said.

To top things off my Father passed away on Thanksgiving night, which was good as he was having a hard time breathing and was not eating or drinking.

Dave
P.S. Keep the Prayers coming

********************************************************

10/28 - Sue has been transferred back to Select Health located on the 5th floor of Holy Spirit Hospital today 10/28.  She will be there until at least Nov. 3rd.  Thanks Barb

Dave

10/26 - On Sat, the 24th, Sue was re-admitted to CGOH for pneumonia, she is in room 142 A, visiting hours are now 3:00-8:00 and for family only due to the swine flu.  She was doing better on Sunday.  As her care is ALL insurance guided as to what they will and will not pay for, I have no idea at this time as to where she will go next - I am guessing either back to Manor Care or Select Health Services located at Holy Spirit.  As soon as I know, I will update.

Dave

**************************************************************

10/14Sue is being moved to Manor Care on 17th and Market Streets in Camp Hill on Monday the 19th.  This is almost right across from the Pennsylvania Bakery.  There has been improvement, but not enough for her to get into a Brain Trauma Rehab Progam at this time.

At this time, Sue can do the following:

Move her fingers on both hands

Move her toes on both feet

Raise her right hand and point to things and wave goodbye, Left hand is not as strong as the right, but can do some of this

Move her right and left foot and raise toes, again right side is stronger

Read 4 flash cards (ie make a fist) and do what it says

Trach came out on Tues; she can faintly say 2 or 3 words

She knows who people are and can nod yes and no answers

All of this improvement has come over the past 2 weeks.  In order for her to get into the Brain Trauma unit, she has to being able to stand.  She has made great progress, but has a long way to go.  Every day she seems to have learned something new and this is what keeps me going.

Thanks,

Dave

P.S. KEEP the PRAYERS coming

*********************************************

10/09 - I know people have been asking, and I've been slacking, but I really don't hear much from Dave at this point.  I did run into him last week & he had some positive news...he's pretty sure that Sue now knows who he is.  This is major, as he was very, very depressed about her not knowing who he was.  He would just like for everyone to keep praying for Sue...it's going to be a long process of at least another 18-24 mos.

09/17 - I've spoken with Dave a few times since Sue has been moved to Holy Spirit.  There hasn't been any change...she still remains in a coma.

09/07 - Last Wed, Sue underwent another surgery.  She had a shunt put into her brain to drain spinal fluid into her stomach.  She was to remain in ICU for approx another 2-3 days, so by now,, she has probably been moved to what they call a "Step Down" facility at Holy Spirit.  Dave would also like to thank everyone, again, for all of their thoughts & prayers.  He greatly appreciates them.

08/27 - Sue is back in a coma

08/26 - Dave called me earlier this evening to let me know that Sue is back in ICU at Comm Gen'l Osteopathic Hospital with a blood clot & pneumonia.

08/25 - Good news & bad news...Good News - Sue is out of her coma; Bad News - she doesn't know who anyone is.  She's had her eyes open now every day since last Fri/Sat.  She has some movement in her right leg and
shoulder and she can blink and nod for Yes & No.

Sue was moved last evening to Health South in Mechanicsburg; a rehab center/long term care unit.  She's in Room 307 and visiting hours are only from 3-8, where in ICU, Dave could visit 24/7.  Right now, she is suffering from MRSA [a staph infection] and Dave now has to wear a cap & gown, etc. when he visits with her.

Additional information to add to her Aug 9th surgery - it was to remove an Arterio-Venous Malformation, or AVM, an abnormal collection of blood vessels.  "An AVM can be thought of as a "Short Circuit" where the blood does not go to the tissues but is pumped through the shunt and back to the heart without ever giving nutrients to the tissues."  This is what she had since birth, not necessarily the aneurysm.

So, technically, she has made great progress since last Friday, but with her move last evening, has hit a set back with this infection.

***********************************************

08/21 - Ok everyone...Dave just stopped by to drop some things off for me, so here's the latest. He said that she looks much better now that they've put the trach in and some other tubes for feeding and drawing blood. She's opened her eyes a... few times, but this doesn't mean that she's out of her coma.

He also mentioned that they've been doing a dopler reading on her brain since she's been there and yesterday was the first day that there weren't any spasms. They will be moving her next week to another health facility. As soon as I find out where, I'll let you know.

08/17 - I received a call from Dave this evening. Very little change. The biggest set back was on Saturday & the Drs said that it is going to be a very long process. They ran some test today & are running some more tomorrow along with putting a trach in so that they can remove some of the other tubes.

Dave asks that you just keep praying for her & thank you for doing so.

08/13 - Stopped by the hospital this evening to check in on Dave & his family. He was there with his daughter & his grandson. There's been no change. They want to thank everyone for their prayers!

08/10 - Sue made it through surgery on Sunday, but she still remains in a coma.  He said that they know there is definitely some brain damage. They want to take her for an MRI, but they can't move her in her condition. And he knows that the prognosis is not good. He told me that it could be 3 days, 30. days or longer.  [Only 3 out of 100 ever come out with no damage at all.]

They normally don't perform surgery for 3-4 weeks, but in her case, they took her within 3 days. ??

I didn't hear from him at all yesterday, so we'll assume that no news is good news.

8/9 - Dave's wife, Sue, is in critical condition at the Community General Osteopathic Hospital.  She is suffering from a brain aneurysm.  She has been in a coma since Friday morning and was in stable condition last evening, but things must have changed this morning.  They took her into surgery around 11:00 AM & we won't know anything until later this evening.  According to Dave, the outcome does not look promising.

I don't expect to hear anything soon, so let's just keep Dave and his family in our prayers.  I will try to keep you updated as Dave updates me.

Barbie

P.S. Cards may be sent to Dave Hume, 115 N. 31st Street, Camp Hill, PA  17011

Policy Enforcement... Last Modified: 6/11/2009 5:13:52 PM by BARBIE

"If a team fails to show at their scheduled match and fails to notify their opponent, that team must pay the opponent a $5.00 fine before their next match. If this fine is not paid, the team cannot play their next match. Three failures by a team to nofity their opponent of a match absence will result in league suspension."

*****************************************************

This particular Policy may not have been enforced in the past, but with the lack of consideration that has been happening so early in the season this year, we WILL be enforcing this rule.  ~Barb & Dave

ANNOUNCEMENT Last Modified: 5/29/2009 4:33:55 PM by BARBIE

Rescheduling

There will be absolutely NO rescheduling done this year except for those needed for rain makeups.  I know that I have done this in the past, but no other leagues do this and due to changes made at my office, I have taken on additional responsibilities and will not have the extra time to do so.  Again, I will try to accommodate your vacation request & bye weeks if submitted in the comments section of your registration form.

Thank you!

Emailing Barb and/or Dave Last Modified: 5/14/2009 6:04:55 PM by BARBIE

Reminder that we have somewhere around 200 teams every summer, so when you email me or Dave for anything, please state your name, Team Name & Division - it is very helpful.  Trust me, we may know who you are, but that doesn't mean we have them all memorized! :0)

Thank you!

ANNOUNCEMENT Last Modified: 7/16/2008 4:46:28 PM by BARBIE

RE THE WEST SHORE HARDWARE BAR

ANYONE entering the deck area MUST enter through the front of the building.  You must show ID, so have it on you.  This is NOT a request - this is how it is.  The Hardware Bar is a separate entity and not part of the Hotel.  The Outer Courts are part of the hotel, so there is not a problem out there.  IF you have someone under 21 on your team and you were accidently scheduled on CC, see one of the court monitors and we'll try to get you switched with another team on the outer courts to play your match.  I think we've been doing a pretty good job so far with that.

Once you are inside, if you need to "jump" the gate up on the deck to go retrieve a ball, they don't have a problem with that because you've already been carded, but you cannot enter the deck area from the side entrance - NO, not even to get to the sand court inside the fence.

There is a porta-potty out by the outer courts for our convenience.  I've also been told that we are able to use the Hotel's rest rooms - enter the hotel doors down near the tent [near the pool] - there are rest rooms right inside the door.

You would have to walk a lot further to get to the City Island courts, so please take the extra time to walk around to the front entrance.  AGAIN, this is not a request.  I've been approached by more than one manager and we need to abide by their rules.

THANK YOU!!
